Please note at the bottom of this page are some suggestions to help you study spelling with your child. Please no more than 10 minutes a night. Pick 2 words every night and ask them to write a sentence using that word in it and use appropriate conventions. (Periods, question marks, capital letters). They need to run and play to develop their bodies and minds so they can learn academics. Please read with them nightly, ask them to read to you, just for fun. Suggestions: Play concentration with these words, put them on index cards and put them upside down to make a match. You could also use the same cards to play "go fish". |

Here are some suggestions to help your child study these words:
1. Ask them to find and write down all of words that have the same "onset" (beginning sound)
2. Ask them to find and write down all of the words that have the same "rime" (word family, like "at", "og")
3. Ask them to clap each sound they hear. Example: for the word "dog" there would be 3 claps: "d" "o" "g". For the word "much", there would be 3 claps also: "m" "u" "ch".
The word "clap" would be 4 claps: "c" "l" "a" "p".
4. Tell them a word and have them spell it for you orally, then write it down.
5. Give them a word and ask them to write a sentence using that word, it may only be a 3 or 4 word sentence.
I hope this helps you.
