The RELAY FOR LIFE We would like to thank all of the people and businesses that supported our Relay team this year. Once again we surpassed what we raised last year. This would not be possible without the help of our community. We Relay to Find a Cure, it is very dear to our hearts! Thank you and we will be asking for your support again next year. Have a great summer. Click here to see the Inverness Cancer Relay Website or to make a donation. WHY OUR TEAM ‘RELAYs': Friends and Family
I first started to Relay for the friends here at school. My Dad then had throat cancer and passed away after a couple of years. Then my Mom developed esophageal cancer. They said she only had days and we needed to get to see her. A strong woman and determined, she is now 90 after beating that and having rectal cancer twice since then. My husband developed prostate cancer 2 years ago; he is doing well and still fighting. Last summer my best friend developed breast cancer and came through it beautifully. This summer another close friend developed breast cancer also, and is doing well. Now we find out that our 6-year-old granddaughter has cancerous polyps in her nose. I have hope after all of these people have fought so hard and they are amazing at their stamina to fight such an ugly animal as cancer. These people with such strength are my reason to “Relay”. Last year my grandmother passed away from Pancreatic Cancer. As she lied in the hospital bed not knowing what was going on around her I thought, What could I do? What could I do to make her feel better and give her as much support as I could? She always had a spirit about her no matter who she met and where ever she went. Later that year my mother was stricken with Cancer of the leg and again I thought, What could I do? What could I do to make her feel better? She is a lively woman with many years ahead of her. Currently, my husband has been diagnosed with skin cancer. He goes for treatments and I am there every step of the way. What gives me the courage and the strength? It is the support from the Relay for Life. It's knowing that you are doing something when you feel hopeless and helpless. Lighting a candle in memory, walking with a support group, fundraising with the greatest group of people and knowing that you are supported every step of the way. These are all the reason why I relay. Gwenn Bean
