Tidbits for Parents

2010 - 2011

  • When grocery shopping, ask your child to round up to the nearest dollar, then have them keep a mental record of the amount. Compare to the actual grocery bill.
  • See if they can tell you how much change you will get back if you use cash.
  • Have the child figure out the tax. Citrus County is 6%.
  • At stop signs or lights, have your child point out numbers, or ask him/her to find a specific number.
  • Children can keep track of numbers on the license plates.
  • Have the child look for specific roads, or have them use the map.
  • Using a deck of regular playing cards, turn over two cards and have your child add, subtract, multiply, or even divide the numbers. A younger child can put the two numbers together and tell you the number. Ask which is more.
