Curriculum is an important piece of life here at Inverness Primary School. All instruction is guided by the Florida Sunshine State Standards. The following subjects in grades K-5 are aligned with the Sunshine State Standards: Art, Foreign Language, Language Arts, Music, Physical Education, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies and Health.  In addition, the following additional areas of study are incorporated into the appropriate academic subjects: African-American History, Disability Awareness, Career Awareness, Character Education, Critical Thinking/Problem Solving, Energy/Environmental Education, Health/Safety/Substance Abuse, Multi-cultural Awareness, and Veteran Sacrifices. As you can see, we are focused on student learning and achievement.

MONITORING STUDENT PROGRESS
A critical component of the instructional planning process is monitoring student's progress. Report cards are issued four times per year. Mid-term progress reports will be sent home midway in each grading period. A student will receive grades if he or she has been enrolled for 10 days in a nine-week period. Parents may request conferences with teachers at any time should they have questions regarding their child's progress.
The grading scale is as follows for Grades 3-5:
A   90-100
B   80-89
C   70-79
D   60-69
F   59 and below
If a student's grades are based on below grade level work or modified work, it will be indicated on the report card in the instructional level section.
The grading scale is as follows for Kindergarten - Grade 2:
P    Performing successfully
I     Inconsistent success
N   Needs attention, little or no progress
E    Extending/applying learning to other areas
M   Modifications made in curriculum

For more information on reporting student progress, please see the Citrus County School System's 2006-2007 Student Progression Plan, Elementary Level.

REQUIRED ASSESSMENTS
Assessment of student progress is another one of the critical components of any sound instructional planning process. Test dates are announced each year by the DOE but are usually given during the months of February and March. The following tests that are directly matched to the Sunshine State Standards (criterion referenced) will be given throughout Florida.
Grade 3   FCAT Reading and Mathematics Assessments
Grade 4   FCAT Writing, Reading and Mathematics Assessments
Grade 5   FCAT Mathematics, Reading and Science Assessments
Grades 3-5  SSS/NRT (Sunshine State Standards/Norm Referenced Test) Reading and Math

In addition, we also administer the Citrus County Benchmark Assessments (CBAT) to all 3-5 grade students. This assessment will provide valuable information to teachers, students and parents regarding which of the SSS have been mastered and which have not. This will assist teachers in planning and differentiating instruction for each child. We plan to administer this assessment four times each year. Students in grades K-5 are given the DIBELS assessment three times  each year. DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) is a statewide assessment which measures each student's progress in reading fluency.

PROGRESS MONITORING PLANS

Another important piece in assuring the successful academic progress of each of our students is the Progress Monitoring Plan (PMP). Four times per year each student in grades K-5 is assessed with county approved reading and math assessments. Following this assessment window, the Curriculum Specialist meets with the classroom teacher to discuss each child's individual progress. At this time, all students who are considered to be at-risk based on state and county assessments, classroom performance and report card grades are given an PMP. This plan is monitored closely by the teacher and Curriculum Specialist and is individualized for each child. The PMP is shared with parents at parent conferences. Our goal is for each child at Inverness Primary School to be successful!
