Power Vocabulary         

 

Research indicates that just reading a word list with meaning can impact a student's comprehension.  These higher level word are great for SAT prep.

disseminate- (verb) to spread, to circulate.  The girl scouts disseminated information about their bake sale.

cynicism-(noun) doubtfulness, sneering.  The fortuneteller was viewed with much cynicism.

proffer- (verb). to offer, to present.  He proffered his hand when he met the famous author.

interpolate- (verb) to inset, to interject.  His statement was interpolated into the police report.

renege-(verb)- to default, retract.  Pau lreneged during the card game by not following suit.

blatant- adj,)-flagrant, very offensive.  Mikey was blatant in his disregard for the posted speed limit.

ruminate-(verb) to think deeply about, to contemplate.  Madison ruminated on how to solve the complicated math problem.

amuck-(adj.) frenzied, out of control.  The horse ran amuck when the fire started.

cryptic-(adj.) secretive, mysterious.  Sam and James wrote each other cryptic notes which only they could understand.

flag (verb) to droop, become weak.  Emily's energy flagged abour half way through the race.
