Guidance
Welcome to the guidance office. I would like to introduce myself. My name is Diane Buie. I am the guidance counselor at Inverness Primary School. As a guidance counselor, I provide a broad spectrum of services for students, parents, and teachers at Inverness Primary School.
Mission
My most important role is being available to ALL children and the prominent people in their life. I counsel with students who have emotional, social and behavioral concerns ranging from the loss of a pet fish to a serious family crisis. Parents may contact me for various reasons. I can provide individual counsel for a child, assess a student's needs, meet for a conference, and provide school and community resources. Also, I consult frequently with classroom teachers to discuss interventions and strategies for students. Teachers may request that I observe students, provide assistance for a specific group of students, or administer classroom guidance lessons. In addition, I work closely with the school social worker and attendance assistant. These are some of the services I provide to help students progress toward school success. My overall goal as a guidance counselor is to ensure that students are achieving academically, as well as, socially, behaviorally and emotionally. When students struggle in these areas and are not making academic progress, teachers refer students to the Educational Planning Team (EPT). This team includes myself, as the chair person, the classroom teacher, ESE Specialist, Curriculum Specialist, and others as requested by the team (i.e. school nurse). We meet to review important student data and school records. At this point, we discuss all concerns and brainstorm classroom and other school interventions. A teacher must contact the student's guardian with concerns before an EPT referral is submitted for review by the team.
