High Frequency Words
Every year students are expected to learn a specific amount of words. The list of words are called high frequency words because they are words that we see over and over again in written print. Many of these words do not make sense phonetically so we teach teh students to read these words by sight. As a result, the high frequency words are also known as sight words. In our classroom we have coded these words further by writing them in red. Students know that when a word is written in red it should be "in their head" meaning it is a word to pay attention to because they have to know it when they see it. Below is the list of high frequency words for kindergarten that your child will learn throughout the course of the school year. Please practice at home with your child so they will be able to confidently read and write these words.
