Happy New Years!!!
Currently we are getting ready to start our annual jump rope unit in pe class. Not only is rope jumping FUN but it is also a great way to exercise, socialize and even have some fun competition!
Our school will be participating in a very special community service program to raise funds for the American Heart Association. We're joining the fight against our nation's No. 1 and No. 3 killers — cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
February 13th – 17th, our school will hold our 16 th Annual Jump Rope For Heart event! These events are held at schools nationwide throughout the school year and not only help students learn about the benefits of regular physical activity and heart health, but they also raise funds to support vital heart and stroke research as well as educational programs.
The American Heart Association is dedicated to helping people live longer, healthier lives. The money we raise helps people in our community learn how to prevent heart disease and stroke and also helps our local patient care. Over the past 15 years we have raised over $55,000!! With our best efforts having been in 2006 when we raised $8,514.09! We are very proud of those accomplishments! This year our school goal for our event is $ 5,000.00.
In addition to raising money for the American Heart Association, our school will qualify for gift certificates for free physical education equipment based on the amount of money we raise this year, and students will qualify for individual thank-you gifts based on the donations they collect. Also, in the near future we will be announcing details for a new, special incentive from our local Subway restaurants for our students who participate this year!
Family and friends can support your child's participation by making contributions. However, we ask that children not go door-to-door or ask strangers for donations. If your child receives any cash donations, please convert those to a check before turning in the collection envelope. All checks should be made payable to the American Heart Association. The deadline for your student's collection envelope to be turned in is February 20, 2012.
