Check Out Policy
Students may have out (check out) up to two books at a time.
Students can check out books for one week. Students can renew their books one time for an additional week if the books are not already overdue. After one renewal, books must then be returned.
If the student has an overdue book, he or she may not check out any more books until the overdue book has been return first.
Please call if you have questions about items your child has checked out.
Parents may also check out materials.
Media Classes
Kindergarten and first grade students become familiar with quality works, types of literature, authors and illustrators.
Second grade students learn about the different literary genres, how the media center is arranged, and how to locate materials on the shelves.
Third, fourth, and fifth grade students are instructed in how to research a topic and in the use of various types of reference/research materials.
Collection
The IPS collection includes over 19,000 titles that are books, videos, student kits (books with audio casettes or compact discs), computer programs, DVDs, or professional materials.
OPAC (Online Public Access Catalog)
The IPS Media Center online catalog can be accessed via the web by going to http://trcdestiny.citrus.k12.fl.us/ and selecting "Inverness Primary School".
Accelerated Reader
Accelerated Reader is a reading management system that provides teacher with an easy and effective way to monitor all forms of reading practice.
The media specialist puchases books and quizzes that support this program.
A search by Accelerated Reader "color dot" level option is available via the OPAC. Go to AR Titles and select your desired color dot or reading level.
Sunshine State Young Readers' Program (SSYRA)
The Sunshine State Young Reader's Award Program, cosponsored by the School Library Media Services Office of the Department of Education and the Florida Association for Media in Education, is a statewide reading motivation program for students in grades three to eight.
Students may participate by returning the Sunshine State Readers' letter to the media center.
This letter will be available in the fall of each year.
The titles for the 2011-2012 school year can be found at the following links: brief book list or annotated list (with plot summaries).
FAME, Florida Association for Media in Education, announces the winner in late spring.
Past SSYRA nominated and winning titles can be found at http://myssyra.org/ under "Archive".
Morning Show (W.I.P.S.)
Each morning a five minute program is broadcast to all the classrooms that includes the Pledge of Allegiance, the National Anthem, and school related announcements read by the W.I.P.S. crew. W.I.P.S. crew members are fifth graders selected at the end of the previous school year via an application process.
IPS students are often recognized on the morning show for special achievements, such as receiving Accelerated Reader Award and Mastery of Mathematics certificates, citizenship awards, etc.
Book Fairs
Two Scholastic Book Fairs, one in the fall and the other in the spring, are held each year in the IPS Media Center.
Book Fairs are timed so as to overlap with IPS Family Fun Nights (so that the book fair can be open to family members during the Family Fun Night).
Our next scheduled Book Fairs will be September 21-September 29, 2011 (Fall Book Fair) and mid to late February 2012 (Spring Book Fair, exact dates still to be determined).
These fairs offer a large selection of titles that students and parents may purchase.
Prior to the fair, a letter and flyer will be sent home
All proceeds from the book fairs are used to support the Media Center.
